National Coca Cola Spelling Bee 2005
CONGRATULATIONS
!April 15, 2005 the District Finals took place at the Father Francis Ring Parrish Hall in Punta Gorda. First Place went to Jeanette Parham from Forest Home Methodist, Second Place went to Alfredo Cucul from San Benito Poite R.C. School, and third Place went to Alexy Rash from San Pedro Columbia. We would like to wish Jeanette and Alfredo luck as they head to the National Finals to be held in Orange Walk on May 20, 2005 at 1:30PM. .

- Principals are reminded to pick up their African maps at the DEC as soon as possible.
- There are over 100 Teacher’s licenses ready for pick up at the DEC, please stop by to see if one of them are yours. If you are currently teaching and have not applied for a license, please come by the DEC to apply for yours as soon as possible.
- The DEC bookstore is compiling a list of text books and prices for the schools to pass out in June. The list will be available at the DEC by the end of May.
- PSE Dates: May 9th—Social Studies and Math
- There are several completion certificates at the DEC for teachers, please stop by and pick them up as soon as possible.
- CPD Hours: We are compiling a database of all teachers CPD credit hours and need all teachers assistance. Please bring any documentation you have for any CPD hours from 2004 or later to the DEC. See Miss Gomez or the IT Department to ensure we have the correct number of hours for you.

Power Supplies for Dell’s are in!
If your school’s Dell Computer needs a power supply, we still have 2 available at the DEC Computer Lab. The price is $148 BZE and installation is free. Please contact Glenford Parham at the lab.

District Education Resource Centre
We would like to thank those teachers that completed our survey on how to better utilize the DEC’s Resource Centre. Some of the suggestions we received are; Opening the Resource Centre on Saturdays and vacation days, having a computer available in the Resource Centre, Resource person to visit schools to support their libraries, distribute a brochure of Centre services, help with the administrative aspects of teaching such as models of lesson plans, report cards and learning enhancements.
After a period of review and scheduling, we will announce the changes in our June Newsletter. |

The risograph, copying machine is here for your convenience and the rates for copies are as follows:For teachers .10 cents per copy when you bring your own paper, .15 cents per copy without paper.
A minimum of 20 copies can be made at any given time.In order to maintain the risograph and supplies all payments for copies must be done promptly |
The first round of Hardware Maintenance classes finished on Feb 16th. There is no charge for the class, since the cost of supplies were funded by a grant through Peace Corps Belize and the Ministry of Education Computer Lab. Priority will be given to teachers from schools with computers, first, but others may attend based upon class size. The classes is 8 hours in length and covers preventative maintenance, installing hardware, software, troubleshooting and file set-up. Session II is scheduled to begin Thursday, May 5th. Session III Sat May 7th, Session IV Sat May 21st, Session V Sat, June 4th, Session VI Sat, June 18th. It is expected that all 22 schools that received computers make an effort to take advantage of this training. Kindly submit your registration forms if you have not done so already. |
